MISTAKES TO AVOID WHILE PREPARING YOUR OWN RESUME:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you looking for a job? Well, if yes, then you must know
that a resume is one of the important steps in recruitment process. Therefore,
you must avoid silly mistakes in order to grab the job of your dreams. Here's a
list of mistakes you need to avoid while preparing your own resume:
Old accomplishments need to be sidelined:
DO not focus
too much on the old achievements. What is important to an employer is your
recent achievements. Do not confuse the term 'old' with 'past', here. Of
course, all your past achievement need to be mentioned, even the old ones, but
the focus should be provided to recent ones.
Create a reader friendly resume:
Remember, resume is
not a copy to showcase your calligraphy and design skills. So, do not use a lot
of stylish fonts, sizes or colours. Do not vary alignments a lot. Either, keep
everything on the left side or centre. Do not scatter it all over the paper.
Remember, it is about a pretty painting that does not necessarily require a lot
of designs and colours.
Too long or too short resume doesn't work:
The hiring
manager should not open the resume and feel that it ended too soon neither
should you provide pages after pages. Keep the length of the resume precise yet
detailed. Include all necessary information. Do not waste the employer's time.
Be specific:
Do not assume that an employer will
understand what you are trying to say. He does not have the time to read
between the lines. Provide specific information of what your job can do for the
company. Paint a crystal picture about how you are beneficial for the job and
the company.
Grammatical errors and types must be avoided:
First
impression is sent through a resume, if not the last, it will be a lasting
impression for sure, so make it worth it. Do not make any grammatical errors or
typos. If you can not be perfect with a simple resume, how can you send the
message of being perfect at your job? Therefore, read the resume twice
before sending it to the concerned person.
